5 Days | 4 Nights at Planet Baobab & Meno a Kwena
Spend five days getting to know the vast salt pan desert of shimmering sand and surreal landscapes in the Makgadikgadi, on this four-night package that offers you the opportunity to experience Planet Baobab, tucked amongst 17 giant baobab trees, and Meno a Kwena, a hidden gem perched on a rocky clifftop above the Boteti River.
You’ll start your journey at Planet Baobab, spending your first two nights in Afro-chic Bakalanga Huts. Enjoy a game drive to Ntwetwe Salt Pan, meeting the resident meerkats of the Kalahari, and spotting some of the uniquely adapted desert species such as bat-eared foxes, springbok and even the magnificent desert-adapted elephant. Here, perhaps more than anywhere else in the world, you’ll be struck by a feeling of utter, marvellous isolation.
Next up you transfer by vehicle to Meno a Kwena, which overlooks the magnificent Makgadikgadi National Park. From your lofty position of your private verandah observe the animals as they drink from the Boteti River below. Activities include game drive day trips to the Makgadikgadi Pans, guided walks with the San bushmen, and up-close game viewing from the floating hide.
This safari starts and ends in Maun in Botswana. One of the best times to visit the Makgadikgadi Pans is during the dry season, which runs from May to October. During this time, the pans are dried up and you can easily access them for activities like quad biking, game viewing, and stargazing. During green season, which runs from November to March, witness the second largest migration of zebra and wildebeest in Africa (and it’s the last remaining one in Southern Africa).
