7 Days | 6 Nights – Mokolwane to Little Sable
What could be more romantic than a Botswana honeymoon safari? Think game drives across wildlife-dotted plains, mokoro safaris down crystal-clear waterways, and a sense of adventure that can only come from being so close to the animals you see in storybooks. If that sounds like your sort of thing, then this itinerary is exactly what you are looking for.
Your private helicopter will charter you both out to Mokolwane, where you will spend 3 romantic nights tucked away in 180 000-hectares of wilderness. From here you’ll heli on to Little Sable in the Khwai Private Reserve, an intimate, tented safari camp set amid water channels and shimmering grasslands. This is the kind of safari honeymoon that comes straight out of a romance novel… perfectly made for two.
From Maun airport you will get in a private helicopter and fly straight out to Mokolwane, over the iconic Okavango Delta with birds-eye views of this wetland wonder below, before landing near camp. Big on adventure, Mokolwane is a small, relaxed camp in one of the largest concessions in the Okavango Delta. Teeming with herds of elephant and all the Okavango predators, it’s no surprise that National Geographic and Netflix filmmaker Brad Bestelink has chosen to base himself here.
Sleep in total comfort, 10 feet above the ground, amongst the shady bows of fig, jackal berry, ilala palm and wild mangosteens. Over the next 3 days your private guide will reveal the wonders of this exclusive and impressive concession in Botswana. Spend your mornings, afternoons and early evening on game drives and mokoro excursions exploring this beautiful yet diverse ecosystem, ticking off birds and wildlife (especially big cats) at a rate of knots.
Little Sable is where you will spend your next three days. This stylish yet relaxed tented safari camp is located amid the pristine wilderness of Khwai Private Reserve. Up here, there’s something to see around every corner and a different land or water-based activity to enjoy every day. Bursting with all the signature wildlife, the reserve has an excellent reputation for hiding the rarer species of the animal kingdom, including wild dogs, serval cats, honey badgers and the elusive pangolin.
After all the action, return to camp to enjoy its down to earth style and comfort. Camp life revolves around the sunken lounge and firepit, where morning coffee and evening sundowners can be enjoyed. The pool pavilion with its double storey viewing deck is the perfect place to relax and hide, from here you can admire the wide open vistas and beyond.
This safari starts and ends in Maun in Botswana. Peak season for the Okavango Delta is between April and October. During these dry winter months, water from the Angolan highlands arrives and water levels in the Delta are high, offering the best conditions for mokoro and boat activities and exceptional game viewing opportunities as wildlife is drawn to the water from the surrounding dry areas. The summer season brings the much-longed-for rains and alongside mind-bogglingly beautiful sunsets and thunderstorms, you’ll notice plenty of newborns springing around the plains. Birding at this time of year is also excellent as the migrants return from their various corners of the globe.
