4 Days | 3 Nights - Uncharted Expeditions Camp
Set aside the idea of a traditional lodge and embrace the thrill of staying at our Uncharted Expeditions Camp, in the raw beauty of the Okavango Delta. This expedition-style safari invites you to sleep in our wonderfully-wild and super-comfy tents – the only ones in our collection without hard floors – designed to immerse you fully into the wilderness. And for the ultimate adventure, spend one unforgettable night fly-camping on a remote island, covered in a cathedral of stars.
Pitched where the animals roam, this is Africa in its purest, most untamed form. There’s no schedule here, only the pulse of the bush. The spirit of adventure rustles around almost every corner, whether you are winding your way along the pristine waterways on a mokoro or boat, or exploring the vast savannah on a game drive vehicle.
You’ll feel like you are stepping back to the golden age of safari, where explorers moved slowly through uncharted lands, maps were still half imagined, and the nights belonged entirely to the wild. Out here, you’ll rediscover the quiet thrill of exploration.
You’ll arrive at Kadizora Airstrip, where your safari guide will greet you and take you on a leisurely game drive to camp, tucked deep in the northern Okavango Delta. Here, in some of the most hidden and breathtaking corners, you’ll find a private bush experience unlike any other.
Each Meru-style tent exudes old-world safari charm and is both comfortable and stylish, with Persian rugs, real beds, and crisp cotton sheets that set the stage for restful nights under canvas. The mess tent is replete with beautifully styled furniture, bone-handled silver cutlery, a small library, and a well-stocked drinks cabinet. The only concession to roughing it are the bucket showers — private, piping hot, and entirely in keeping with the spirit of the bush.
Your days will pass in gentle wonder as you explore this private concession and its fascinating inhabitants. Keep your binoculars ready for all the stars of the safari show and learn about the rich diversity of plant life as you glide through the maze of channels on a mokoro. Here, the Delta comes to you on its own terms.
Either stay in camp, or choose to experience an unforgettable night flycamping on a remote, lantern-lit island, just like the explorers of old. This island sleepout is only offered to guests during peak water season – generally between June and September depending on the floods.
You’ll set off on an afternoon game drive activity combined with a mokoro transfer (or boat transfer if water levels allow), to arrive at your private camp on an island, deep in the Okavango Delta, just after sunset. You’ll sleep in a comfortable mosquito-net ‘tent’ under a veil of stars, the air filled with the calls of the wild, and the Delta stretching endlessly around you.
*Scenic Helicopter Flight Over the Delta
Add a little magic to your Delta experience with a helicopter flight over the waterways; panoramic delights, priceless memories and stunning photographic opportunities await.
After a walking safari around the island, you’ll head back to the mokoro or boat for a last drift through the papyrus before you return to camp for your last day and night relishing in this incredible part of Africa. This is a safari that offers the simple joy of being in the wild.
Take a trip to Tsodillo Hills and discover the ancient rock art hidden in the extraordinary landscape. Flights are usually done in the morning, and the trip takes approximately 5.5 hours in total from the Delta.
DAY 4: HOMEWARD BOUND
Sadly it’s time for one last breakfast; before you bid farewell to Uncharted Expeditions Camp in preparation for your onward journey.
This safari starts and ends in Maun. Peak season for the Okavango Delta is between April and October. During these dry winter months, water from the Angolan highlands arrives and water levels in the Delta are high, offering the best conditions for mokoro and boat activities and exceptional game viewing opportunities as wildlife is drawn to the water from the surrounding dry areas.
