Sable Alley, Redefined

For a long time now, Sable Alley in Khwai Private Reserve has stood as a firm favourite, both among travellers and the Natural Selection team. But even the most loved places benefit from a refresh — and that’s exactly what we’ve done.

The lodge has recently undergone a comprehensive refurb, giving the camp a fresh edge as well as some sparkly new facilities. Each of the rooms now has its own plunge pool, allowing travellers to cool off during the heat of the day without even leaving their tent deck. We’ve also installed a well-stocked new bar in the main area, raised and enlarged the firepit and refreshed all the interiors.

These touches have elevated the elegance and simplicity Sable Alley is known for, pairing the warmth of this stunning camp with the wild exterior of the Okavango Delta.

The Comfort Factor

The suites have been quietly elevated – literally. Extended decks now stretch further into the landscape, each one anchored by a private plunge pool. The design is simple – more space, more privacy, more time to do absolutely nothing while the Okavango Delta carries on around you.

Inside each room, it’s all about the soft furnishings, a new mini bar and coffee station, layered textiles, and a palette that mirrors the Delta’s calm – warm, grounded and unfussy.

Raising The Bar

The main area has had a subtle reset too. Clean cosmetic updates, fresh soft interiors, and a new bar that pulls the space into an easy, social flow. It brings everything together – opening it up and creating a natural place for guests to gather. Above, wrought iron chandeliers introduce structure and definition.

In order to bring our vision to fruition, we brought in interior designer Michele Throssell, presenting her with a simple brief: we wanted to elevate the camp, adding extra comfort and space, while staying true to what already works. Sable Alley has long been a firm favourite with our guests, so the approach was to refine rather than reinvent – enhancing comfort and improving flow, without losing Sable’s easy-going character.

“For me, Sable Alley was about keeping things simple and intentional – drawing on the tones and quiet strength of the sable, layered with the textures of the landscape,” shares Michele. “We kept coming back to the idea of less, but better. Spaces that don’t compete for attention but quietly hold it. The landscape leads; the design simply keeps pace.”

Make this the year that you soak up Sable Alley’s quiet elegance for yourself – you could even do it from the private plunge pool outside your room.
