Meet Our Characters: Ally Ndekurona Karaerua

We caught up with managing director of our Namibian operation to find out what his job entails and why you should be booking a flight to this otherworldly destination…

What’s your full name?

“Ally Ndekurona Karaerua.”

Where are you from originally?

“I am originally from the northern part of Namibia from a small village close to Grootfontein called Okomita.”

Where are you based now?

“I am not sure where I am based, I am all over the whole show moving from camp to country although based in Windhoek, Namibia.”

How did you get into the travel and tourism industry?

“I landed in the hospitality industry by accident.  It never crossed my mind and I did not know much about it.

After completing school, I took a gap year.  I worked in a hotel during that time and I instantly fell in love with the industry.  I went ahead and studied hospitality management at Kenya Utalii College in Kenya for 4 years.  The rest is history, the instant thank you is still keeping me here 25 years after.”

What’s your role at Natural Selection?

“I am the Managing Director of the Namibian operation and also take care of sales and marketing.”

What does your job entail?

“My job entails providing leadership to the business, growing it and making sure that all rooms are occupied and everyone is happy.”

What makes Namibia such a special country to visit?

“Namibia has beautiful landscapes and wide-open spaces that make it special.  I always say that Namibia is a game stalking destination and finding game in a special setting is much more rewarding.  It is the country where the Namib desert meets the Atlantic ocean.  They call Namibia ‘Africa for beginners’ since it’s easy to rent a  vehicle from the airport and drive through the country’s well-posted roads without a problem.  There are only two roads and you cannot get lost – enjoy the journey!”

Do you have a favourite Natural Selection camp in Namibia and why is it your favourite?

“It is a difficult question as each of the camps has their own unique character and no camp is like the other, however, my favourite area is Damaraland because of its open spaces and unique changing landscapes.”

What’re your favourite things about living and working in Namibia?

“The people are friendly and the quality of life in Namibia is very good and after all, it’s home.”
