From here you head out by helicopter to Mokolwane in the southern Okavango Delta. This is leopard country! Tucked away in 180 000-hectares of wilderness in the Xudum concession it boasts the third highest density recorded anywhere in Africa, making this small relaxed camp, big on cat adventure.

Day by Day Itinerary

Day 1-3: Meno a Kwena

Your safari adventure starts at Meno a Kwena, this relaxed camp overlooks the magnificent Makgadikgadi National Park. Meno a Kwena literally translates as “teeth of the crocodile” so keep an eye on the Boteti River below. From this lofty position you will spend the next three days and nights game-viewing straight from your private veranda, as the animals wander down to drink.

With a glistening roster of activities to get your teeth stuck into, enjoy a day trip to the Makgadikgadi Pans, guided walks with the San bushmen, game-drives and up-close game viewing from the floating hide or simply cooling off in the Flintstone-esque rocky swimming pool.

Day 4 -7: Mokolwane

From the Makgadikgadi you will transfer by helicopter to Mokolwane in the iconic Okavango Delta. Sleep in total comfort, 10 feet above the ground, amongst the shady bows of fig, jackal berry, ilala palm and wild mangosteens, over the next three days your private guide will show you around.

Mokolwane is a small, relaxed camp in one of the largest concessions in the Okavango Delta. Teeming with herds of elephant and all the Okavango predators, it’s no surprise that National Geographic and Netflix filmmaker Brad Bestelink has chosen to base himself here. You’ll spend your mornings, afternoons and early evening on game drives and mokoro excursions exploring this beautiful yet diverse ecosystems, ticking off birds and wildlife (especially big cats) at a rate of knots.

When to Go and
What to Pack

This safari starts and ends in Maun in Botswana. One of the best times to visit the Makgadikgadi Pans is during the dry season, which runs from May to October. During this time, the pans are dried up and you can easily access them for activities like game viewing and stargazing. During green season, which runs from November to March-June, witness the second largest migration of zebra and wildebeest in Africa (and it’s the last remaining one in Southern Africa). Peak season for the Okavango Delta is between April and October. During these dry winter months, water from the Angolan highlands arrives and water levels in the Delta are high, offering the best conditions for mokoro and boat activities and exceptional game viewing opportunities as wildlife is drawn to the water from the surrounding dry areas.
