DAY 4-7: Fly to GweGwe Beach Lodge in Mkambati Nature Reserve.
From the wilderness of Kwandwe Game Reserve you’ll fly to the rugged and picturesque Wild Coast where you’ll land near GweGwe Beach Lodge situated in the Mkambati Nature Reserve, along the Indian Ocean.
If your idea of paradise involves unspoiled landscapes, pristine coastlines, and a symphony of nature’s wonders, then this is perfect. A hidden gem where luxury and adventure take centre stage. There are not many places in the world you can watch wildlife on land and dolphins (and even whales) offshore.
Situated on a stretch of coastline that is as untamed as it is beautiful, between the dramatic cliffs, tumbling waterfalls, pockets of dense swamp forest and crystal-clear waters, you can enjoy days filled with wildlife watching, beaching and exploring, and nights being lulled to sleep by the Indian Ocean.
The reserve is a haven for diverse plant and animal species. Jump on a mountain bike and hit the cycling trails (eBikes are also available), head out on a hiking trail, guided 4×4 nature drive, our hit the sea on a kayak or SUP.
Enjoy a marine or botany walk, shore based whale watching (June, July and October), snorkel amongst incredible marine life, watch the sardine run (mid-June to mid-July). Visit one of the largest remaining colonies of Cape vultures in the Eastern Cape, or engage with the Pondo locals – you’ll experience the warmth of the people and the richness of the culture.
The lodge itself offers 9 en-suite luxury rooms (7 twin deluxe suites, 2 family), each with a small garden, private deck and 7m pool with exquisite ocean views.
Day 7: Boat to Port Edward and drive to Durban.
After 6 exciting nights on your bush and sea adventure, today it’s sadly time to say goodbye. You will set sail for Port Edward by boat, followed by a road transfer to Durban before heading to your onward destination (with the option of flying to GweGwe directly to Durban or East London). Bon Voyage!
