Name: Hoanib Valley Camp

Where: Kaokoland in northwestern Namibia.

Rooms: Six en suite tents (five twins, one family).

Activities: Game drives, nature walks, rhino tracking, cultural experiences with local Herero people, giraffe research insight.

Great for: Desert adapted elephants, desert-adapted giraffes, rhinos, and you might even spot a desert-adapted lion.

Children: Children of all ages are welcome.

Conservation efforts: If conservation’s your thing, you’ll love it at HVC (as we affectionately call it.) The camp is a joint venture with the local community and the NGO the Giraffe Conservation Foundation (GCF). The research here focuses on the desert-adapted giraffes as well as the elephants and other general game. Guests may be able to meet the researchers and learn how they monitor the individual giraffes in the area.
